Located two miles southwest of McCook Lake off I-29, the 1,500-acre Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve along the Missouri River was donated to the people of South Dakota in 1984, by Mary and Maud Adams, granddaughters of original homesteader Stephen Searl Adams. Adams features several restored buildings, including a barn, country school and a church; and more than 10 miles of trails. The Shay-Adams Home contains many original furnishings.
