The fort was not burned. A white flag was hung over it and the confederate troops withdrew.

Today I was privileged to visit Fort Defiance Center. I was enthralled by the history and artifacts I found there. It was staffed with a pleasant curator who made my visit very enjoyable.
The exhibits were fascinating and well done. History came alive literally when the portraits spoke to me (in fact, the homemaker lady scared me when she started to talk). What a wonderful touch. The weather was a little wet to walk the trails today so I will have to do that on another day.
Thank you for making my day. What a grand piece of our history you have preserved for posterity!

Respectfully,
