An important part of Nashville Tennessee's Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation, Centennial Art Center is located in the 25th Avenue North and Park Plaza / Charlotte Avenue corner of Centennial Park. It was originally built as a swimming complex in 1921. Closed in 1959, it was renovated in 1971, becoming the first Metro Nashville Government-owned structure rehabilitated for "Adaptive Reuse." Outdoor courtyard areas were developed to include a performance space, exhibition spaces, and work areas. The building serves as headquarters for Metro Park's Visual Arts Department, houses two studio/classrooms where visual arts classes are taught and arts workshops are conducted and a gallery where regional artists exhibit their works.
