Designed by architect William Strickland, who is buried in the north facade, the Greek Revival-style Tennessee State Capitol is one of the oldest working capitols in the nation and contains includes numerous statues including those honoring Sam Davis, Sgt. Alvin York, and Presidents Andrew Jackson and Andrew Johnson and the tombs of President and Mrs. James K. Polk are located on the grounds.
