The first battle of a two year war between Mexico and the United States that ended in 1848, this historic site is where an artillery duel opened the Mexican War on May 8, 1846. The 3,400 acre site is the only unit of the National Park Service with a primary focus on the U.S.-Mexican War and the entire conflict is interpreted here.
