In the canyon of this 2,173-acre park Fate Bell Shelter that contains some of North America's oldest pictographs--some believed to be painted 8,000 years ago and considered by many experts to be among the most important rock art finds in the New World. Early man first visited this area 12,000 years ago, a time when now-extinct species of elephant, camel, bison, and horse roamed the landscape.
