Established by the U.S. Army as one of a string of forts along the Texas frontier to protect settlers and travelers, this historic fort is located on the west bank of Baron's Creek and includes four main museum structures, two reconstructed officer's quarters, the fort's guardhouse, a visitor's center, and a well stocked museum store.
