A Texas historic landmark that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Liendo Plantation was originally a Spanish land grant of 67,000 acres and one of Texas' earliest cotton plantations. A social hub for early Texas dignitaries and notorieties, Liendo served as the site for cavalry and infantry training camps, an internment camp and a hospital during the Civil War. It was General George Armstrong Custer's headquarters for a short time after the War. Liendo was the home of world renowned sculptress Elisabet Ney and her husband from 1873 to 1911.
