Friends of then-President Johnson, pruchased thes property directly across the Pedernales River from the prisident's JBJ Ranch and donated it to the Texas Parks, and Wildlife Commission, which created the park in recognition of Johnson as a "national and world leader." This park depicts the story of Lydon Johnson and features a permanent exhibit gallery that contains artifacts and exhibits that showcase his life and accomplishments. A preserved 1960's working cattle ranch is also located in the park, as well as Johnson's boyhood home.
