Artpace is a foundation that promotes contemporary art in San Antonio through shows of regional and international artists, hoping not only to educate the public, but also to serve as a mechanism and catalyst for the creation of new art by contemporary artists. The foundation is housed in a renovated 18,000 square foot 1920s building that was once a Hudson car dealership. One of the programs offered by Artpace is the Artist in Residence program, in which an international artist comes to work at the facility.
