In 1885 a young pharmacist, Charles Alderton, concocted a soda fountain drink. The drink, originally known as a "Waco," was later given the enigmatic name "Dr Pepper;" a name that has retained its mystery, as the origin of this name has never been discovered. As the drink grew in popularity, it became the first major soft drink in America, the inventor had to bottle his invention in order to meet the demand.
