On June 19, 1865, slaves in Texas first learned of their emancipation more than two years after Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth commemorates this joyous day in African-American history and this family oriented, fun filled celebration includes music, a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, entertainment, and food.
