Situated on the Chesapeake Bay, three miles from the northern terminus of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, the 536-acre Kiptopeke State Park has been the site of bird population studies sponsored by the Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory and licensed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service since 1963. Popular recreational activities enjoyed here include camping, hiking, fishing, and swimming. A fishing pier, boat ramp, guarded swimming beach, bathhouses with washers and dryers, cabin rentals, five lodges, recreational yurts, RV rental trailers, camping facilities and picnic shelters are available.
