The setting for the stories of the cherry tree and the silver dollar thrown across the Rappahannock River happened at this boyhood home of George Washington, who lived here from 1738 to 1752. An important part of the Union lines during the Battle of Fredericksburg was also held here and archaeological digs continue in the search for the original farm buildings and houses of Washington's youth. A visitor's center, demonstration garden, picnic tables, and self guided tours are also available.
