Rising Sun Tavern

(circa 1760)
1304 Caroline Street
Fredericksburg, VA 22401
540-371-1494
website

Built by Charles Washington as his home, this building was later operated as a tavern. Much of the woodwork in the tavern is original, and the rooms are filled with period furnishings. The Tap Room features a reconstructed bar cage and a fine collection of 18th and 19th century English and American pewter. "Tavern wenches" entertain visitors as though they have just stepped off a stagecoach in a lively interpretation of 18th century tavern life.
