Built at the request of Robert E. Lee, who was president of Washington College from 1865 to1870, this National Historic Landmark now houses the University Museum, the Lee family crypt, and Lee's office. The chapel is home for a group of portraits called the "Washington-Custis-Lee Collection" that includes the famous Charles Wilson Peale portrait of General George Washington and the Theodore Pine portrait of General Lee.
