"The largest of Virginia's six original state parks," the 4,537-acre Fairy Stone State Park with a 168-acre lake adjoining the Philpott Reservoir is named for its "fairy stones," rare mineral cross-like rocks composed of silica, iron and aluminum. Visitors enjoy such seasonal recreational activities as hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, swimming, fishing, boating, and hunting.
