O­ne of the oldest and largest wineries in Virginia, this property was built in 1834 and it has served as a boys' school known as Washington Academy, a Civil War garrison, a courthouse, and a dairy. The vineyards cover about 70 acres of gently rolling countryside and the winery is housed in the plantation's former dairy barns. The wines are made from hand-harvested grapes and have consistently earned top honors in state, national, and international wine competitions.
