A National Historic Landmark in Charles City County that is listed on the Register of Historic Places of Virginia, Westover Plantation is considered a premier example of Georgian architecture in America. Westover's grounds include formal gardens, a rare iron clairvoyee, such outbuildings as a five-hole privy, tunnel and an icehouse, several barns, and three 18th-century English wrought-iron gates. A site on numerous trails, including Civil War trails, John Smith Adventures on the James trails and the Virginia Birding & Wildlife Trail, Westover’s grounds and outbuildings are open to the public every day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except during private events. Westover is open for tours during Westover Church's Autumn Pilgrimage and Thursday through Saturday during Virginia’s Historic Garden Week in April.
