Surrounded by the Occoquan and Potomac Rivers, this ecological treasure is a time capsule of natural habitats that are rare or nearly extinct in Northern Virginia. This 644-acre refuge, part of the Potomac River NWR Complex, was previously a military research site and is one of the largest remaining open spaces in Northern Virginia. Over 200 species of birds and 600 species of plants have been identified on this site.
