I must admit my heart sank when we pulled up to this place. The rather steep price of our cottage led me to expect the stately old house of most bed and breakfasts in my experience. One of a Kind is a very unremarkable suburban house. The cottage is actually a converted garage. The view of Lake Champlain is spectacular, and the gardens are lovely. I would have felt I'd gotten my money's worth if the innkeeper had made a little more effort to make us feel welcome and cared for. The website touts an assortment of locally-made foods and artisan breads, with a picture of a tempting spread with fruit and cheese. We stayed for three days and got nothing but granola, yogurt and a box of Tropicana. The fresh ground coffee at least was good, but if you stay in the cabin you have to brew it up yourself. Also, I missed the touches of luxury I've come to expect when I stay at a B&B, like down pillows! We got cheap foam. Outdoor furniture is set up to enjoy the view, but it's mostly lawn sale castoffs, uncomfortable chairs with rickety little tables. I'm all for recycling and reuse, but the innkeeper might want to consider investing in her guest's comfort at these prices.
No air conditioning either, which would have been fine except for the fact that there was a heat wave through our entire stay. The innkeeper seemed affronted when I told her the ceiling fan wasn't helping much. I'll try elsewhere on my next visit.
