Mount Rainier National Park has five developed areas: Longmire, Paradise, Ohanapecosh, Sunrise and Carbon/Mowich. 6.5 miles east of the Nisqually Entrance, Longmire is in the southwest corner of the park. It contains the Longmire Museum, National Park Inn, Wilderness Information Center, and Cougar Rock Campground. At an elevation of 5,400 feet, Paradise is 19 miles east of the Nisqually Entrance and 12 miles east of Longmire. Here you can enjoy the Jackson Visitor Center, historic Paradise Inn, Guide House, and the historic Paradise Ranger Station. At an elevation of 6,400 feet, Sunrise is the highest point that can be reached by vehicle at Mount Rainier National Park. Not accessible in winter, Ohanapecosh is three miles north of the park boundary on Highway 123 and 42 miles east of the Nisqually Entrance. Named for coal deposits found in the area, Carbon receives the greatest amount of precipitation within Mount Rainier National Park. Mowich Lake is the largest and deepest lake in Mount Rainier National Park.
