Central Washington University's Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute was designed to facilitate research on primate communication and to serve as a training center for students, a public educational center and a sanctuary for Washoe, Loulis, Tatu, and Dar. Though not open daily to the public for entertainment purposes, CHCI offers weekend educational workshops known as “Chimposiums.”
