A rustic registered National Historic Landmark in the South Rim, Bright Angel Lodge & Cabins was designed by architect Mary Elizabeth Jane (E.J.) Colter and is the check-in point for the world famous Grand Canyon Mule Rides. All cabins and lodge rooms come complete with telephones. The full-service Bright Angel Restaurant offers a selection of traditional entrees. Located right on the South Rim of the Canyon, the seasonal Bright Angel Fountain is where you can find sandwiches, ice cream, hot dogs, and fresh fruit. The Bright Angel Bar, near the top of the Bright Angel Trail, is filled with murals depicting historical canyon scenes. The only lodging facility below the Canyon rim, Phantom Ranch is beside Bright Angel Creek on the north side of the Colorado River and can only be reached by mule, foot, or by rafting the Colorado River.
