The house is the birth place of Atticus G. Haygood and Miss Laura Askew Haygood. Atticus was a president of Emory College from 1876-1882 and a Bishop in the Methodist religion from 1890 until his death in 1899. Laura was a principal of a girls school in Atlanta, Ga and one of the first missionaries in China. She was buried in Shanghai where she died in 1900. The Chappelle Gallery show cases over 65 contemporary artist both local and national with National reputations. The gallery specializes in pottery & glass, but also carries wrought iron, paintings, Judicia, jewelry, and pewter. They sometimes offer two rooms as a bed & breakfast.
