The St. Valerie Shrine is an ornate glass and wood casket containing a wax statue embedded with the actual severed arm of St. Valerie. Valerie was born in Rome and became a virgin Christian martyr when she was tortured and beheaded in the Roman Coliseum in the late second century. map

The Jean Lafitte National Park Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center tells the story of the Acadians who settled along the bayous and the wetland swamps of southeastern Louisiana, with extensive exhibits and artifacts. A musical Cajun Jam Session takes place every Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. A spacious boardwalk affords an excellent view of the bayou. map
