505 North Fifth Street • Rapid City, SD 57701
Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn
605-348-2689
The Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon in Rapid City will benefit the many programs of Feeding South Dakota, while raising awareness about the issue of hunger in the state and local community. Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger. Since its start in 1991, Empty Bowls projects now occur many times throughout the year, all over the world, raising millions of dollars to fight hunger. The premise is intentionally straightforward; guests are served a simple meal of soup and bread. At the end of the event, everyone will choose from over 400 bowls, one ceramic bowl to keep. In contrast to the full soup bowls on the tables, the hundreds of empty bowls on display are a reminder of the many bowls still needing to be filled in order to provide nourishment and food to the hungry. All donated bowls will be painted or crafted by every skill level, from amateur to professional artists in the community. The bowls will be displayed during the luncheon, and prior to the event can also be found in a Hunger Exhibit at the Dahl Fine Arts Center, April 9-11. more...Empty Bowls Luncheon
