Lakes & Marinas

Beaver Creek Lake Located on Route 680, 434-296-5844, Consisting of 115 land acres and 104 water acres, this lake stocks an ample supply of sunfish, channel catfish, and largemouth bass. U.S. Coast Guard approved boats and crafts are welcome on the lake. map

Chris Greene Lake Located on Route 850, Chris Greene Lake Road, 434-296-5844, A large supply of sunfish, largemouth bass, and channel catfish is stocked at this 62 acre lake which is surrounded by 120 acres of land. A fishing pier, boat launch, children's playground, grills, picnic shelters and tables are scattered around the lake for visitors to enjoy.  map

Hardware River Located at Carter's Bridge on Route 20 South, 434-293-6789, Flowing south for over 26 miles to join the James River just above Bremo Bluff, this river is a great place for canoeing. It includes three Class 2 rapids along the lower part of the river. map

Rivanna River Access Point at Darden Towe Park, 434-293-6789, Named for Queen Anne of England, this beautiful and gentle river flows through Albemarle and Fluvanna counties, as well as the City of Charlottesville, and it is a wonderful place for fishing, canoeing, swimming, and boating. map

Fortune's Cove Preserve Located on Route 651, Fortune's Cove Lane, 434-295-6106, This 755 acre preserve, situated within some 29,000 acres of relatively intact forest habitat, provides a challenging hike, and rewards visitors with stunning mountain vistas. The five and a half mile loop trail climbs steeply from the parking area and gains approximately 1,500 feet in elevation before reaching its highest point. map
