  • Old Nansemond County Courthouse

    Built in 1840 to replace its predecessor which had burned in 1837, this provincial Roman Revival courthouse is built in the tradition of earlier Jeffersonian-style public buildings and it was used first by Nansemond County and then by the City of Suffolk until 1998.  map

  • Riddick's Folly (circa 1837)

    This avant-garde Greek Revival house gets its name from its size and it contains 21 rooms, 16 fireplaces, and four floors. The house was a Union hospital during the Civil War and signatures and notes from the wounded soldiers are still on the walls of the house. The house also features constant and changing art and historical exhibits.  map
