Little House The smallest house in Shepherdstown. This supersized doll house was a Shepherd College project. Completed in 1929, the two-story "house" has five rooms and measures 10 feet high by 9-1/2 feet wide, with 5 1/2 foot ceilings. It was built so student teachers could observe children playing in the "Laboratory setting." |

Popodicon Shepherd Grade Road, Shepherdstown, WV 25443, Popodicon, the Southern mansion style home of Shepherd College's presidential families, is a highlight of the Shepherdstown community and is rich in history, charm, and beauty. Located on Shepherd Grade Road, Popodicon is surrounded by 126 acres of rolling land, including stately lawns and formal gardens. The estate's history goes back to 1879 when Henry W. Potts, a civil engineer, came to Shepherdstown to lay out a section of the valley branch of the Norfolk and Western Railroad.

Elwood Cemetery There are approximately 120 graves of casualties of the Battle of Antietam buried in the "Soldiers Graveyard" near the front of Elmwood. There are an additional 120 Confederate veterans' graves throughout the cemetery. An "Army of Northern Virginia" battle flage marks each. Supposedly, there are two G.A.R. veterans buried here. One has been confirmed; the other has not. |
