Depicting the lifestyle of middle class merchants in the 1850s, this Greek Revival style house was built by William Root, one of Marietta’s earliest merchants and its first druggist. A beautiful garden is on site which reflects the gardening practices of the mid-19th century, as well as outbuildings of the time and a gift shop on the first floor. View the graves of many Union officers who died from Dalton to Augusta and who were buried here during the Civil War. Over 17,000 men are buried here, more than 3,000 of them unknown, and many of the men died during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain.
