Otis House Museum (circa 1880's) 119 Fairview Drive, Madisonville, LA 70447, Located in the Fairview State Park, 985-792-4652, The Otis House was originally built as the family home for sawmill owner William Theodore Jay. It was later purchased and renovated in the 1930s by Frank Otis, serving as his summer home until his death in 1962. Mr. Otis left the property to the State of Louisiana to be developed into a recreational site for visitors. The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The Otis House Museum is open for tours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.

Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum 133 Mabel Drive, Madisonville, LA 70447, Located 5 Miles Away from Mandeville, 985-845-9200, The Lake Ponchartrain Basin Maritime Museum, located on the banks of the Tchefuncte River, takes you on a historic journey from the Native Americans who discovered the Northshore to present day. The Museum also includes the Tchefuncte River Lighthouse Station (built in 1837) at the mouth of the river, the 1880s era lighthouse keeper's cottage, which has recently been moved to the Museum grounds for renovation and a modern concrete dock on the river.  more...

Northlake Nature Center 23135 Highway 190, Mandeville, LA 70448, 985-626-1238, The Center offers visitors the opportunity to experience three different ecosystems: hardwood forest, pine-hardwood forest and pond-swamp. The ponds in the cypress swamp area are the result of beaver dams and a beaver lodge is visible from one of the centers raised boardwalks.
