The golden era of steam railroading has been recreated authentically in this first class tourist attraction. It’s 1881 again as you ride the Texas State Railroad on a nostalgic, relaxing trip through the rolling piney woods and hardwoods creek bottoms of East Texas. With the age-old cry "All Aboard", your conductor sets the historic steam train in motion for the 50-mile round trip between Palestine and Rusk, crossing 24 bridges as it plies the route built by state prisoners over 100 years earlier. As you gently rock behind turn of the century steam engines, you are reminded of the much simpler time and lifestyle of the Golden Age of Steam. March through November, weekends only except in June and July when it is Thursday though Sunday. State historical markers detail the history of the Texas State Railroad, Visitors center, Railroad Store, Food Service, Handicapped accessible, Train Leases. State Park adjacent to both train depots, with camping facilities. more... map
