William Gove Bixby (1829-1907), a lifelong resident of Vergennes, left most of his estate to build and maintain a public library that would serve the local towns. It was designed in a classic Greek Revival style around a central rotunda with a stained glass dome overhead. In addition to over 25,000 volumes they have video and audio tapes, puzzles and periodicals, and rare books and genealogical records. There is also a lecture and musical events program. more... map
