Blakeley Place and Mordington Avenue
Historic home built by Charles Washington, brother of our first President. Originally two wings were built and were connected by a breezeway. Washington intended to eventually build a larger middle part but never did. Suffering severe damage during the Civil War when it was bombed by the Confederate Army, it was not restored until 1872. In 1859, the abolitionist John Brown was tried here for treason. This is still a working courthouse. mapLocke House (circa 1795)

This historic church was used as quarters by Union troops during the Civil War and much damage was done to the building by the soldiers. The historic cemetery contains the graves of many important West Virginia citizens, including over 75 graves of members of the Washington family.

Jefferson County Memorial Park

he Jefferson County Memorial Park was incorporated in 1949 and was made possible by a land donation from the late Dr. and Mrs. G. P. Morison. The park is located on South Mildred Street in historic Charles Town, WV. Today the park offers a 40’ x 75’ public swimming pool, a 20’ x 20’ wading pool, three tennis courts, two basketball courts, a softball field, several playground areas, four pavilions and a Veterans’ Memorial. Additionally, a paved walking trail that measures 7/10 of a mile was constructed in 2004. more... map
