Barker-Moore House, The (circa 1782) 509 South Broad Street, Edenton, NC 27932, 252-482-7800, Owned by the Edenton Historical Commission, the Barker House was built for Thomas Barker and his wife, Penelope, who was a prominent figure in the Edenton Tea Party which occurred on October 25, 1774. Cupola House, The (circa 1758) 408 South Broad Street, Edenton, NC 27932, 252-482-2637 (Edenton Visitor Center), Overlooking Edenton Bay, the Cupola House was built by Francis Corbin, land agent for John Carteret, Earl of Granville, one of the last famous Lords Proprietors who acquired vast territories south of Virginia from King Charles II in the 17th century. "It has been called the finest Jacobean house south of Connecticut and North Carolina’s most significant early dwelling." Somerset Place 2572 Lake Shore Road, Edenton, NC 27928, Located in Creswell, 252-797-4560, Offering a comprehensive and realistic view of 19th-century life on a large North Carolina plantation, this unique historical attraction on the northeast rim of Lake Phelps is the only such North Carolina plantation preserved as a state historic site and open to the visiting public. The present-day historic site includes 31 of the original lakeside acres and seven original 19th-century buildings. Visitors can tour such structures as the circa 1830, Collins Family Home, the dairy, kitchen/laundry, kitchen rations building, salting house, and the smokehouse.
