Once the fastest way to travel over the Allegheny Mountains, the Allegheny Portage Railroad is a system of inclined planes and the historic 900-foot Staple Bend Tunnel, which was carved through solid rock by Welsh coalminers. Visitors can see a historic tavern, the Lemon House; hike, bike, view replicas of the buildings, or browse the many exhibits and models in the visitor center.
