  • Erie Land Lighthouse

    Originally known as the Presque Isle Light Station, the first Erie Land Light built in 1818, along with the original Buffalo Lighthouse, was the first lighthouse on Lake Erie. A new 56-foot tower was opened in 1858 but was unstable. The 49-foot tall sandstone completed in 1869 was used until 1899. The adjacent 1867 keeper's residence houses the park caretakers. more...  map

    The Erie Maritime Museum premier exhibit is the Niagara. Docked for public viewing from September through May and occasionally during the summer each year, the Niagara is "the reconstructed flagship of Pennsylvania and the warship that won the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812." It is a squared-rigged, two-masted warship that was originally armed with 18 carronades and two long guns.
